As Pride Month reaches across the country this coming June, a quiet little town in rural Ontario will be making their participation official for the first time. A small group of volunteers, led by long-time Erin resident and event coordinator Tracey Wallace, have recently banded together to form Erin Pride - a grassroots committee with the goal of producing Erin’s first sanctioned Pride event honouring the local 2SLGBTQIAP+ community.
The celebration kicks off at 11am on June 22nd in McMillan park, located at 109 Main Street in the Erin Township. The event is open to all ages, with a strong focus on family inclusion. The afternoon will be filled with vendors, activities and entertainment that celebrate members of our rural Ontario queer communities.
The folks behind the scenes at Erin Pride have been working tirelessly over the last six months to pull together this momentous event that - for small-town Erin - has felt like a long time coming.
“Erin is seeing more growth and a greater diversity in our community than ever before” says Tracey, “it’s important that both our current and new residents know that everyone is welcome here, that their families are safe here. It’s the right time for this to happen.”
